RAPHAEL BEYSANG
Beaujolais, France
We are proud to have been early on with ”The Beysangs” visiting them for the first Nouveau Litre in Saint-GermainNuelles. Our GPS in the rented car was not really collaborating this first ride there (which shouldn’t be blamed for the epic night before at Bar Odessa in Lyon;-) but impossible to miss this wonderful couple out in the fields; Emelie’s red hair and Raphael’s beard. With capital B. I’d say they are already the core of our business! After some years working in Alsace, Raphael left for the Auvergne working with Vincent Marie of No Control. That’s where he met Emelie, originally from Quebec who worked with Aurelien Lefort and Patrick Bouju. Now, the second vintage of their Nouveau, the fruit is from old vines planted in 1950 on sandy soil. They gave the grapes two weeks maceration whole bunch and bottled the wine without filtration, fining or any additions. It’s bright and juicy with dark fruit. For us the ultimate Vin de Soif actually, and a bottle that we did sell out quickly. Which comes to this image taken(very informally) two days ago in our kitchen with the bottle we started with; their other Gamay Les Paltieres 2018 with themselves on the label…and when going for the second bottle…just way inside one of the fridges…we just found that very last bottle of our first Nouveau Litre. The most bearded in business might say it’s a 2 Litre vertical to perfection. Thank you Raphael and Emelie for doing such great wines!
